Fan Art Law-Artist Alley 2013

Just watched the very helpful, educational, and eyeopening video on the laws of fan art. I wish I was there. At the end, I'm a little more confused about the psuedo-goods clause in the artist alley contract for AX. I'm left with the question, how is the artist alley at AX still running when the fan art sold there is in copyright infringement? There was a part in the video when he said even if the fanart is not drawn in the original style, it's still breaking the law. I'm really conflicted if I should even still participate in artist alley. =/

Anime Expo Artist Alley 2013 (cont...)

Continuing from the previous post, I started to carve at this gigantic glacier that is preparation for artist alley. Recently I’ve been reading this helpful google doc. I don’t know the name of the author or seen any of his or her artwork, unfortunately. But I trust that this advice is great! Overall, this article was so insightful and very helpful. The way it was written really kept my attention and had me chuckling. I took some notes as I read, to help this advice stick in my memory throughout the year. Of course, this is just the start. I’m not going to take it as the end all mandatory list of what to do and not do at my table. I’m still on the hunt for more resources like this.

One of my goals is to look as professional as possible when I’m at my table. I have business cards but they’re a bit boobalicious. Ok, well a lot boobalicious. The card definitely gets an eyebrow raise but, I don’t want to give off the impression that I only do sexy pinup art.

I want to make buttons and custom packaging for  them as well. These businesses were exactly what I was looking for

I haven’t ordered anything from them yet, nor do I have the buttons…or the artwork for the buttons, YET! When I do get all that situated, maybe I will get some custom packaging. I’m looking at you “purebuttons” with your cute monsters and what not. This brings me to my next topic!

Employment! Ah yes, who doesn’t need a job these days.  On the list to make money for artist alley are commissions! Yes, If you or someone you know is looking for an illustrator to do character work, please recommend me. I have a chibi commission chart up here.

I will make a new one for full body, regular, proportion characters and title it something like “Help Me Get to Artist Alley” or something clever. That’s for another post!  Until then, thanks for a moment of your time! Have a good one!

Team Fortress Olympic Chibis

Team Fortress2 is so addictive to play and the Olympics this year had me glued to my TV.  I was inspired by the opening ceremony outfits to dress each character in their respective countries outfits. Before I decided on the opening ceremony clothes, I was going to put each character in a sport I thought they fit perfectly and draw them in that specific uniform. It was easier to find references for the opening ceremony than some teams’ athletic uniforms. Plus have you seen Russia’s red and white jackets? They’re awful! I didn’t want to put the Heavy in that! Most of the open ceremony uniforms were very unique and professional. Almost all of them included white pants/skirts? Was that international color of the year?

I really enjoy the personalities of each character and try to make them shine through. I like them all but, my favorites are the Engineer and Pyro.

Finished Doctor Who Converse

Continuing from this previous post...

Here are the FINISHED Dr. Who custom converse sneakers, I painted for my friend and her boyfriend. The original design they requested was created by Sandirareddy.

I liked painting on fabric. I am have to incorporate that into products for my artist alley table next year at AX 2013.

Anime Expo Artist Alley 2013

Yeah! I got myself a table for next year's Anime Expo in the Los Angeles convention center. This will be my first time doing artist alley. And I have one word for how I'm feeling about it, EXCITED! Then the excitement turns to anxiety and then the anxiety to being overwhelmed then back to excited.  I'm researching this topic so I can be prepared. There are SO MANY resources to properly research how to do artist alley properly. I'm thankful for them but still overwhelmed! @_@ So much to read! Where do I start? Who do I ask? What kind of timeline do I make? I have alot of questions but, I'm ready.

Right now, my main focus is to research what fanart to sell and CAN I sell it. I don't want to be sued on my first attempt at this. My list of things to start making art for are (in no particular order):

Fooly Cooly, Powerpuff Girls Z, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Avatar the Last Airbender + Legend of Korra, Adventure Time, Bayonetta, Dead Space, Portal2, Team Fortress2, Empowered, Alphonse Mucha, Gil Elvgren, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Totoro, Jem, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, Miku Hatsune and friends, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Ouran High School Host Club, Gurren Lagann, Lucky Star, ROD, Paranoia Agent, AND D.N. Angel.

That's the start of the list. It will shrink, depending on how I plan my time and what I learn from my research. I would greatly appreciate anyone else help or advice in planning this event. So far, I've brought together these links.
