Excercise 1- Bouncing Ball C

My creativity for this one felt flat but I got it done with all the requirements. Yay! Critiques are welcome.  I like shape tweens more than motion tween. I have more control and it feels closer to hand drawn animation with the frame by frame edits.

I hate Flash

I did some good work in Flash today. I was saving CONSTANTLY, learning the program, finally understanding more of it, and created something I would have been happy to turn in for my class. THEN, after an hour and a half of progress, Flash starts to flip out on me. "Oh ho ho, no," I think confidently, "I've got you this time. I've been saving diligently! Even if you crash now, any progress lost will be minimal. NO RANDOM COMPUTER CRASH IS NOT GOING TO GET ME!" I close flash, after one more successful save, and wait a few seconds then open Flash again. When my file opens, EVERYTHING IS GONE! EVERY FRAME! ERASED! HOW?! WHY?! WHEN?!  I SAVED, DAMNET! The cherry on top to make this extra sweet is the .fla file appears to be corrupted now. I can open the file but I can not play the timeline or add new layers. The dumb program crashes! EVERY TIME!  Frustrated, I squished some gummy bears in "Burrito Bison"  and performed a few surgeries in"Amateur Surgeon 2" in Adult Swim arcade.

I don't know what happened. I thought I was doing something simple with Flash. I guess not! *grits teeth* When I start over, I'm going to save multiple versions. Hopefully that will help. But right now, I can't even look at Flash.

I KNOW this moment when a computer says "SCREW YOU" happens often and this won't be the last one.
What did you do when a software malfunctioned and lost a significant amount of progress?

My "animating music" playlist to help relax my frustrations.

Excercise 1- Bouncing Ball B

It's challenging to wrap my mind around using a symbol to do this ball bounce. It was easier with the shape tween and simple shape directly on the stage. I think I should do the animation with shape tweens IN the symbol then, place that symbol on the stage, moving it around when necessary. I did that with this one. The color changes are only happening because of shape tweens in the symbol which I didn't loop.

With that I'm scrapping what I did recently. It's too complex and not really following with the guidelines of the assignment. I hate it when I NEED to start over on something. :-/ I will "K.I.S.S" the next one. "Keep It Simple, Stupid!"

A Baker and Ruby

For the past few weeks, I've been very focused on my Valentine's Day and doughnut inspired project. Yet I still don't have a title for it. That will come later, first comes the animation! Here are updates to my project since my previous post.

1. STORYBOARDS: I transferred my new boards to index cards and expanded on a few parts in the story; making a total of a good hefty amount of storyboards! I'm going to put the animatic together in Flash. (On a side note...) After helping my friend Rajesh color in his short film "Bumps", he offered me a spot in his cartooning class to show his thanks. It's once a week for 2 hours at Summer Arts Studio for 6 weeks. I'm almost done and have 3 more weeks to go. In three weeks Rajesh, taught me some pointers on storytelling, storyboarding, observational drawing, and character construction. He helped me improve my storyboards to what they are today.

2. CHARACTERS: All this week, in addition to starting classes  for the semester, I have been working on the character design of Ms. Ruby and the Baker (or William, if that tickles your fancy). Ruby and Baker are a cute couple; with her being all short and chubby and him being all tall and lanky. I still have to finalize their designs with turn around reference sheets. But you can definitely see William went through a few changes. I want my story to be placed in the Victorian Era or earlier but not earlier than 1800. I hope I can achieve a simplified version of 1800's society in my story.

3. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE: Busy, busy, busy! I have so much I INTEND to do but my intention don't mean sh*t if I don't put some action behind it! This "To- Do List" for this project I am going to transform into a schedule to help keep me on track and maybe have it done by the end the Spring semester (by June). Plus, putting it online is motivational and holds me accountable to you! Yes you at the keyboard.

VALENTINE'S ANIMATION "MUST GET IT DONE!" LIST

  2. Ruby and Baker Reference Sheets w/ 5 Emotions IN COLOR

  5. Work on Backgrounds/ Do Finals IN COLOR
  6. Color Ruby (Ms. July Illustration)
  7. Make blog post about progress (Derp!)
Wish me luck! Thank you for reading or skimming and a moment of your time. Toodles

With big thanks to a friend of mine (Chloe Valdecantos), I was recently commissioned by author Jasmine Miller to make a new banner for her blog, "This is Blog: Who Talks Like That?" and a caricature. It was a pleasure to work with Jasmine. She was professional, friendly and gave honest critiques and encouraging compliments. Please go over to Jasmine's blog and check her out! She working on  publishing her first book and a 60K/60 day challenge. 1000 words a day for 60 days! Woot! From sketch to final, here is the progress of Jasmine's commission.

Lil' Angels

Recently, I worked on the short film "Lil Angels" directed by Rajesh Bhavnani. I added color to the characters' animation. The story to "Lil Angels" is cute, funny, and of course well animated in Flash. I really like voice of the main character, Silverman. Here's a link to the short and check out  Rajesh's blog and website. You will not be disappointed.

Skipping Animation

More animation to put on my animation blog. But I've been having a problem with my Flash CS4. I can't use the main scene stage only the symbol stage. If I'm in the scene, Flash freezes and sometimes CRASHES! T_T! Good thing I save as often as I do.

Things I need to work on:
  • HER HAIR!!!
  • feet
  • Face

Birthstone Calendar

It came! It finally came! My birthstone calendar from Vistaprint. I LOVE how nice the colors printed. They are very vibrant and the paper is nice an smooth too. I wish it was thicker though but, I'll print out that version when I can invest more money. Another down side is, I put notes on specific dates, birthdays and anniversaries, but Vistaprint did not print those notes. I going to make a customer complaint form. Besides not printing the notes and the thickness of the paper, I love it!
